BB * 30ish * MD * 10 AM * Glen Echo Park (GLE)
The Usual Weekday Ride From Glen Echo . Moderately hilly ride through Potomac, with a probable stop at a cafe near the end. No go in the rain or on wet/icy roads. Longer options will be entertained/available by popular demand on February 18, depending on weather. Check with leaders if temp is below 32°. Please park in the lower portion of the lot farthest from Macarthur Dereck Woodward [dereckw@comcast.net] and Warren Farb [wfarb@comcast.net] 301/320-4942.
CC * 35 * MD * 11 AM * Buddy Attick Park (BUD) * 44°
Weekend Warmup. Seize the day and join our nice crew of regulars and irregulars on this casual true "CC" flatish ride with a few nice climbs for excitement. Lunch after ride if temps in the 60s. Hot chocolate stop possible mid-ride. NOTE: park in the Buddy Attick parking lot (despite what the ride start description says) and not across the street at Ivy Lane. Ride decision is dependent on temps and conditions so if cold but sunny and calm we might go - call cell after 9 AM on day of ride. If marginal or in doubt CALL! George Schneider [gbs319@juno.com ] and Harold Goldstein [mdbiker@goldray.com] 301/854-0388 or 202/997-2376.
ALL * 38/34/27 * VA * 10:15 AM * Belle Haven Picnic Area (BEL) * 40°/30%
Charles Cushman Memorial Ride. This is a nice winter training ride, with some good hills, and it is remarkably traffic-free. There is one rest stop. Ride leader will have the sign-up sheet, cue sheets and be there to get everyone started. Then it will basically be "leaderless" groups that will form according to pace and distance. There is usually a post ride lunch bunch. Park in the north lot (second one) Call the leader if you have questions or weather/road conditions dubious. Tom Niedbala [niedbalaatverizon.net] 703/799-4598.
D/C (MF) * 20/30 * VA * 11 AM * City of Fairfax corner of Rt 123 & North St.

CC(H) * 23/30 * MD * 10 AM * Point of Rocks (POR)
Simply Lovely Ride . This is a favorite winter ride for me - some hills (nothing major) to help the legs keep in shape, along with nice scenery. Depending on the day's morning temperatures, ride leader might decide to delay the start, so check the forum, bike list or call before 8:30 AM day of ride if you have any questions about the weather or temperature. Joan Oppel [oppel.js <> verizon.net] C: 703/328-1978.

This is a simple ride that should not challenge too many people. It is basically a ride down to Pierce Mill and back. Possible lunch after the ride at a restaurant nearby. Mike Divine [mikeandjoandivine@erols.com] 301/258-7820.

A Country Quiet . MOSTLY FLAT AND ALWAYS A TAILWIND. This beautiful ride takes us through the tranquil countryside south of Nokesville on many country roads - a few recognizable from other rides. The turn-around point is the Bristerberg store, which is a familiar stop for PPTC. Traffic is minimal and the route is mostly flat but not without a few rises here and there. The Brentsville Courthouse Historical Park features six notable buildings: the courthouse, jail, a one-room schoolhouse, the old Union Church, a wood cabin, and a wood-framed smokehouse. The park is open to tour after the ride. Total ascent is about 1,000 over 34 miles or only 30 per mile. Restroom facilities at the park may not be available; Porta-john at Aden grocery store at 5 miles and Bristerbuerg store at 13. (Directions: Brentsville Courthouse Historical Park, 12291 Bristow Rd, Bristow, VA, immediately adjacent to Brentsville Presbyterian Church. (Please use Mapquest or similar for directions from your home.) If weather is doubtful, call ride leader at home NLT 2 hours prior to ride start or on cell phone thereafter. Nokesville Picnic 36 Mile Ride . This is a great ride because there are not a lot of cues and there are plenty of places to stop on the second half of the ride. Terrain is flat to gently rolling, but no matter what Butch says I think there is always a head wind in Nokesville. We'll leave 15 minutes before the "BB/B"s start their training ride but everyone from either ride who wants to can go to Joe's afterwards. I'll be "leading" the ride from the back because that's what happens anyway and one might as well make a virtue out of riding slowly. Questions on weather (won't go if it's raining or snowing) or any other contact ride leader (please note that ride leader does not obsessively check email on weekends so call if it's really important). Ride from Fulton . Come out and enjoy a ride on what hopefully won't be too cold a day! The terrain will be mainly rolling with a few notable hills. As with our rides, Jay will be riding at a faster pace with Jeanette averaging a low "B" pace. There will be no rest stop due to the short distance and we don't want to get cold if we stop! However, we will try to regroup at some points during the ride. If it happens to be a particularly warm day, we will bring a cue sheet for a longer ride which will have a rest stop. No go in rain, snow or if a good chance of ice on the road. There is a Ledos close by so we can go for pizza afterwards if people are interested. (Directions: Fulton P & R is on MD 216 just west of the intersection of MD 216 and US 29 in Howard County. The entrance to the parking lot is in front of a large building with the word "GRACE" on it. From the Beltway, take US 29 north -approx 12 miles - to MD 216 west. Entrance is on the left; from MD 108 east to MD 216 south, entrance is on right shortly after you pass Lime Kiln Rd.) Bathrooms located in the BP station in Maple Lawn SC. The address of Grace Church is 8200 Old Columbia Pike, Fulton 20759. Jeanette and Jay Howard [Jeanettehoward@verizon.net] 240/271-7001.

Flat and Cold . If the temperature is below 40° at the ride start time, then the ride leader will show up at 1 PM for the ride (see 1 PM ride description). You might also want to monitor PPTC Listserv, since I may try to send a note if the ride might be go at 1 PM or be canceled due to weather. This is a simple ride that should not challenge too many people. It is basically a ride down to Pierce Mill and back.
