Lost River Classic - Way Out West - 88, 50 and 66 miles

Way Out West (WOW) you’ll find mountains, forests, babbling brooks, wildlife, (85%) sparsely traveled roads, historic “furnaces”, quiet, and climbs. It’s worth the extra drive, now and then. With 8500 feet of climb, this ride is great training for the Mountain Momma or the Civil War Century. The ride starts on the western edge of the northern Shenandoah Valley, climbs over the ridge at Wolf Gap into WV, and then explores several valleys (and the ridges in between) in the George Washington National Forest and Lost River (WV) State Park. The shorter routes are out-and-back and 100% low traffic, so you can just turn around when you’ve had enough. The full route turns south into VA, comes back into the Shenandoah Valley with the waters of the Shenandoah’s North Fork, and then skirts the west edge of the valley to return via the resort town of Orkney Springs.
