Question about cycling levels

Hi folks, I'm new to this group. Last year was my first year of cycling. Throughout the summer I rode over 1000 miles and on Oct 7th, I cycled the Seagull century. The weather was unusually calm. I finished, averaging 15 miles per hour for the 100 mile ride. What level/group should I ride with? Thanks, Janice

Rides have a tendency to run

Rides have a tendency to run somewhat faster than stated - there are any number of theories for this and any number of possible remedies all of which could be discusced but regardless of all that, it's the way it is! :-) My suggestion would be to start with a "CC" ride and then move around depending on how you like that. My sense is that there is a big divide between "CC" and "B" rides - "B" rides will have more pacelines, etc.

ride levels

Thanks Catherine for your response! I'm definitely going to start in the CC group. I don't enjoy exhausting myself only to find that I'm at the tail end of the group. Janice

Janice, you can see how our

Janice, you can see how our classification works: you went 15 (.0?) mph for 100mi. How was the weather, esp. the breeze?! The Seagull terrain is Flat, and looking at where 15mph fall under the (F) column will put you in the CC class, squarely. However, the averages there are also expected to be defining principally for the "typical" ride distances, and 100 isn't at all typical for any of our classes; so, you could suppose that you might have a faster pace were you riding, say, 45miles. But the CC class seems like a good spot to start. And, should you meet some riders who seem to like-paced, and esp. if you are towards the front on CC rides, you & friends might take in some Bee rides, too. (-;

Thanks Dan for your response. I'm going to follow your advice...CC is for me! Janice

B/A rides!

I actually started riding with groups very recently. The problem I am facing is the pace generated by fellow cyclists as soon as we hit out of the parking lot. I have seen quite a few sprinting out of the parking lot:-) I can keep a A pace but I like to warm up atleast 10 mins before cranking it. But last few rides I had my HR above 160 in the first 10 mins of the ride:-) and this is not even a race, just a group ride! I guess I have to turn up early enough just to warm up on my own so i feel comfortable later.

hmm

Bring your trainer to the start and warm up before the ride starts ;)

Well I would have considered

Well I would have considered that idea if I knew it was a race but since it is not I have decided to chill and set my own pace at the start. Anyway cranking out of the parking lot does no good for the body or for anyone who is seriously training for the season.

starting out - response

Thanks Rajeshnair. I too don't like to start racing from the start. I like to get past the first 10 miles. They are always the hardest for me. They're the make or break deal for me. Janice
