Quality of Service

Since I already found a way to get myself blacklisted from one store for questioning their recommended purchases to a ninny customer (or just bicycle newbie), I am going to keep the name of this store private. The reality is that they did avery good job of job tuning up my stealth. However, the costs for an equally ridiculously high price of about $225 once I discount the costs of special items like installation of a new computer.

Here are my two questions:
(1) How many other stores charge $100+ for the price of the tune-up and then proceed to tack on costs of parts used in the repair, principally cable wiring for the brakes and duraleur (sp) so that it equals about $225 (and this includes discount given to me as a member of PPTC, WABA, LAB and AC)?
(2) What's the validity of a store person's claim seeing that a rear cassette (Ultegra) needs replacing since it has not been replaced over the past 3,000-4,000 miles or amount I rode last year when I got the last tune up for about 1/4 the cost from a vendor at RAGBRAI?

Tune-ups and cassette/chain maintenance

My last tune-up was $80. I think it is typical to include extra cost for parts. I don't think you should need a new cassette after only 3-4K unless you didn't change the chain when it starts to wear. I try to check my chain every 1500 miles. If your chain wears and you continue using it, it will wear out your cassette earlier than you would expect.

I am getting one done now for $100 from a Team in Training friend that is doing this as a fund raiser. He picked up my bike and will bring it to me for my next ride.
